Smart Cities

Against the background of economic and technological changes caused by the globalization and the integration process, cities in Europe face the challenge of combining competitiveness and sustainable urban development simultaneously. Very evidently, this challenge is likely to have an impact on issues of Urban Quality such as housing, economy, culture, social and environmental conditions.

Conceptual KLT is working in some of the 6 drivers technologies to help building Smart Cities, especially in SMART MOBILITY through it IoT and IoP activities and also in the area of SMART PEOPLE, with its Social networks services.

Smart Cities

The world is experiencing a period of extreme urbanization since the beginning of S-XXI. In China alone, 300 million rural inhabitants will move to urban areas before 2030.. This will require building a city infrastructure equivalent to the entire population of the US in a few decades.

In the near future, cities will account for nearly 90% of global population growth, 80% of wealth creation, and 60% of total energy consumption. Developing better strategies for the creation of new cities, is therefore, a global imperative.

Our need to improve our understanding of cities, however, is pressed not only by the social relevance of urban environments, but also by the failure of traditional approaches. To build the cities that the world will demand, we will need a scientific understanding of cities that takes the built environment into consideration. This is the main aim to Smart-Cities.
